Game Lagging while recording on OBS

Hello everyone. I have an Acer Nitro 5 Laptop with AMD Ryzen 3550H processor and Nvidia GTX 1650 Graphics card. I have a 2x8GB RAM on the laptop. I wanted to record Age of Empires 2 DE gamplay but it consistently lagged to an unplayable degree.
I tried toning down the output quality on OBS to 720p and 30 fps but it still did not help and the lag remained while OBS was on. Bottom line: I could neither record nor properly play the game.
Please give me some suggestions and recommendations that I may find helpful.

Ps- Does it depend on the game as well? On the amount of CPU and GPU resources it takes?

Yes, the Game and OBS both use the GPU Think of it like running two concurrent games Try limiting your game FPS to 60 or 30 then the resolution

My monitor has a refresh rate of 60Hz so my fps caps at 60. I set video output to 720p and 30 fps but still the lag persisted :/
