Question / Help Game Capture won't work on steam games, display will

So the other day I did the update for OBS and I ran into an error (I'm including this in case I screwed something up) because I was playing Final Fantasy XIV and I have that set to a scene to record/stream. So I closed the update, finished what I was doing, then opened and re-did the update. After that I deleted all my old scenes because they were a bit messy and I have new templates that I wanted implement as well.

Yesterday I sat down to try to work on recording a Transistor video through steam. I added the game capture and started because I had a new headset to test as well. After tabbing out of everything to check the feed in studio mode I noticed my transistor screen was no where to be found. It had gone to a single red dot (minimized I guess) and when I opened it, it was a black screen. So I redid the capture and it worked for a bit and I started recording. I did my intro and blah blah blah. I got into the game about twenty minutes when my husband decided he wanted to disturb me. I went to go stop the video and I realized that the game had did the exact same thing. It will capture the games via display capture, but it's easier for me to mono-screen this at the moment by doing the window capture.

After getting online and checking for possible issues I did the run OBS as admin, can't get Transistor to run as admin, but I ran STEAM as admin. It didn't help any. So I booted up a different steam game and now the capture won't work at all for ANY of them. It will still capture Final Fantasy XIV and it will capture Diablo III. Needless to say I was pretty irritated yesterday by the time it was all said and done. So because I have so many files from yesterday I'm not 100% which one is the one where the error first started occurring in but I'm uploading one I did a little while ago to show/share the problem and see if maybe I need to uninstall/reinstall OBS (which I haven't tried yet) or if it's something I need to go in and change in the settings.

Thank you very much for any assistance that can be provided for this issue.

TL;DR: Game capture stopped working on steam games for some reason. Display capture works, but no idea what I did that it will now capture specified game window. Would like to know why if possible.

Ive got a very similar issue. It captures some steam games but not all. For example it captures Middle Earth: Shadow of War perfectly fine but doesnt seem to capture the new Wolfenstein game.

I get similar logs like yours where it says:
"attempting to hook process: Stardew Valley.exe
could not open process: Stardew Valley.exe"

quite annoying.

Yeah I'm thinking I screwed something up when I had an error doing the update. But at first it would capture the game a bit. But I've tried Transistor, Stardew Valley, and a couple of other Steam games and for some reason now they won't do squat. I figured "Okay XIV is in there and it still works but maybe it's an error in new setups". So I booted up Battle Net and updated D3 but it works on game capture. So I'm out of ideas except uninstall/reinstall. But then if it still does that, then I need to reconfigure everything for no reason essentially. Hopefully someone has an idea because I'm stumped lol.

So I was working with it some more today and to my surprise, it started capturing Plantera (a game I didn't try yet) so I swapped from that to Stardew and it captured that. So I was thinking it's fixed, I have to tinker with my sound because I haven't apparently setup my bluetooth properly so I get Transistor up and am trying to get it set up. swap the capture over and.... nothing black box. So here is a copy of the previous session, since I forgot to upload it before i closed it.

Hopefully any discretion can be found in the new log that might help shed light on what is wrong that it seems just that specific game is now not co-operating. I do apologize if this comes off as impatient but I was hoping that it was fixed so I could post here "oh hey it's fixed", but maybe the new additional information with more informative than just the previous log standing alone.

Run obs as admin.
This seems to be your answer to numerous posts....I run OBS in Admin and it has solved literally none of the problems that you seem to claim it solves....if there are other steps please share them or perhaps elaborate. what you say does nothing. thanks.

Perhaps you should open your own thread instead of ressurecting a thread from over 3 years ago.
