Question / Help Game Capture Preview Disappearing

When I do game capture the preview window will sometimes show the game, but when I move my mouse over the game screen inside the preview window the game screen will disappear.

For instance with CSGO it doesn't matter if I start OBS first or CSGO first, both running in admin mode, the game sometimes shows in the preview window and I'll alt-tab out to resize the game screen and as soon as my cursor touches the game screen it goes black. I can't resize or even see the little red circles outlining the screen. It happens with CSGO and SC2 that I know of.

The only thing I've gotten to work that will keep the preview screen up is starting OBS first, setting up game capture to capture any fullscreen application, checking Multi-adapter Compatibility, and then starting CSGO.

Here is the log file:

Have you tried re-installing your GPU drivers? Could be something weird related to upgrading to Win 10.

No, but I'll try that next.

Edit - I reinstalled the drivers but it's still not working right. Original OBS doesn't have this problem, so maybe it's something with OBS MP and Windows 10/drivers.

I assume I have the same problem, I'm running win8.1.
Can't change any other things about it either, and the only real way to get it to show is either reset transformation (ctrl+R or whatever it was) or force scaling to a set resolution.

This is literally the first and only one I've made, I haven't yet transferred to usage of the multiplatform properly.

Slightly offtopic, who gave you these x264 customs? Lowering your B-frames results it really bad motion estimation and poor compression efficiency, lowering your qcomp and increasing qpmin causes the encoder to waste bits on nothing.

AQ-strength is the only setting that has a visual difference, Direct=Temporal isn't used in a single x264 preset, its either Spatial or Auto and subjective at best

There's a reason B-frames and quantizer settings don't change when you change your CPU preset

Was getting this issue as well, but now game capture won't even pick up anything at all. Just a black screen.

I'm having the same issue. On my iOS version of OBS I load the game capture and resize it with no issues. On the PC, it will load initially but as soon as I attempt to resize the window it vanishes. Even when looking on a blank Scene where there are no other sources. Help - without a game to display, streaming is mostly useless!

They are from a guide here https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/first-person-shooter-60fps-guide.204/

I haven't tried using them in a stream yet, it was more of an experiment.

I think it might be something with the preview window for game capture resizing itself.

The preview window would reappear if I went to Transform and clicked Fit to Screen. After that I could move it around and resize it with the red circles again. But now the window will disappear if I try to resize it holding Shift.

Well I think that is a bit of a given, since I legit showed the window changing in a way it isn't intended to.. The question is more about why, rather than whether it does so or not...

I was trying to see if the preview window was turning off or if it was being resized. I thought the window was being turned off vs. it being made smaller because nothing I did could make it come back.

Alright, fair enough, I apologise for my slightly rude reply then. Still want to see an admin or a similiar authority tell us if something is being done about this... Really wish I got any errors when I started so I could actually pretend I'm trying to fix this myself.

Haha, no problem. It's a frustrating problem, but at least we're giving them some info about it.

I'm having this exact same issue as well.
I also wanted to add that when the GameCaptureWindow disappears, you can remove the source, re-add it, restart OBS, restart computer... nothing I did brought it back until I read this thread saying you could Fit it to screen. Then it came back and I could resize it. But as stated above, using Shift-Drag makes the window disappear again.

I don't stream too often and didn't realize there was an issue until today. I didn't have any issues in the past. I at first thought it was due to Windows updates this past week.

OBS Version: 0.11.3

OS: Windows 8.1

Recently installed updates this week:
KB3078601
KB3075220
KB3076895
KB3046017
KB3060716

KB3071756
KB3078071
KB890830

Note: Although deselected, Windows 10 attempted to install 3x on my machine. Microsoft is REALLY pushing Windows 10 down my throat.

I have this same problem. A quick work around however is to enable force scaling and use trial and error to find exactly the resolution you need. This is the only way to change the size without it disappearing. Hoping to see this fixed in an update soon.

Will be investigating. If/when the cause is found, it'll be patched.
