Question / Help Game Audio Out of Sync

Hey all,

I'm having an issue with local recordings, namely that my game/desktop audio is out of sync with what's being recorded, while my microphone is completely in sync with what is occurring in the video. I am not streaming when this occurs. I've uploaded an example here

Here is the log that goes along with the session that recording was taken:

I'm relatively new to recording as a whole and mainly used Youtube tutorials to set up OBS. My audio up until recently had been perfect. The only thing I've done since then is add a second monitor to my setup, though I have no idea how that would effect my audio, but I thought I'd mention it anyways just in case.

Thanks for the video, very short and to the point, illustrated the issue nicely.

Can you grab a screenshot of the advanced audio properties, how you have your audio devices set up between the two tracks being recorded? I'm currently investigating a potential issue with track 1 audio going out of sync for whatever reason, so this might help with that.

Thanks for the quick reply. I think I managed to screenshot everything needed, but let me know if I missed something, I'm still relatively new to OBS as a whole.

Ah, why are you using 320 audio bitrate? Try putting that back down to 160 and see if that helps the sync issues. Pretty good chance you don't actually need birate that high.

Just tried that, and it made zero difference, the desync stayed exactly the same.

Very curious. Why you are recording two tracks when all tracks have the same audio mix? Are you able to upload the actual file from the youtube video so I can take a look?

Sure thing, here's a link to it. As for the audio tracks? I don't know! I followed a youtube tutorial and just went off what the guy said. Everything seemed to record fine previously so I thought nothing of it.

Sure thing, where should I upload it to? The forums don't seem to support the file type and it's too large. As for the audio tracks? I don't know! I followed a youtube tutorial and just went off what the guy said. Everything seemed to record fine previously so I thought nothing of it.

Somewhere like dropbox or google drive should be fine.

And that's the problem with youtube guides. There's too many factors when it comes to settings in OBS, copying what works for someone else does not mean it will work for you, even trying to do close to the same thing.

Haha, I forgot I had a dropbox and literally just uploaded it as you replied, check my previous post.

I'll have to do some digging around then and see what would work best with my setup I guess.

Thanks for the file. Looks like both audio tracks are out of sync there, so there goes that theory... Let me do some digging and see what I can find.

Hey! Just wondering if there's any other ideas of what could be causing this. I'm still have the same issue unfortunately.

Having this same issue (with streaming as well), though I'm not using a mic.

No idea if these log attachments will work because it never tells me when it's done uploading and I have to refresh for them to appear.

It's out of sync right from the start. Not the first time this has happened. Happened a little over a year ago for a while until I guess it was eventually fixed.

I just found a recent video where I think they say to disable "Use Device Timestamps," so I'm gonna try that next time.

Disabling Use Device Timestamps seems to have fixed the instant desync for me (maybe). I might have ignorantly enabled them on my own at some point.

However, I've found another issue, whether they're enabled or disabled, same thing (so... I guess off topic) In the game I'm currently playing, a specific sound, or combined set of sounds, when navigating the game menus causes a loud screech in my OBS recordings. You don't hear it when playing the game, just in the OBS recording/stream. It happens often, but not every time I go through the menus. Sound Device set to 24bit 96khz, OBS audio set to 48khz, though stream set to Simple 128kbps

This is similar to my issue with audio and video not synced in recording. But mine only does it when streaming + recording. When I record games without streaming, I don't have any issues. I'll try the device timestamps thing myself next time I open it.

I just disabled Timestamps as well, it fixed the issue for me.
