Full screen projector freezes with added thumb icon.

I use OBS 30.0.0 for Teams meetings. OBS runs on my Mac Studio, to which I connected a Sony A6000 camera via an Elgato Camlink 4K to the USB connection. I use a second Elgato Camlink 4K on the HDMI connection of my Mac. This is seen as a second screen. Using the OBS Full Screen Projector, I send the overall image to this second screen. The USB output of the second Calming goes to my work laptop, where it is seen as a virtual camera. By selecting this virtual camera in Microsoft Teams, I can use all the features of OBS without putting too much strain on the laptop.

After updating my Mac to Sonoma 14.1.1.the camera image freezes after a few minutes while a transparent thumb is visible as an overlay (See the screenshot). I expected a notification or some other indication of what is going on because of the thumb, but I can't find anything. Does anyone know what could be going on here and how I can solve it?

It’s not a bug, it’s a feature :) I am not sure why it would freeze on you, but the thumb is a ’reaction’ that MacOS Sonoma adds. While running your complete set up, look in status bar for a rectangular green or blue icon and look around to switch off ‘reactions’. Hope this might solve it. I was confused as to where these big reactions suddenly came from, but I did not encounter any freezes on my OBS/camera setup. Good luck.

Thank you. The problem is indeed caused by a function in the new Sonoma control program. This function allows you to add emoticons and thumbs up within programs that work with a video stream. This can be controlled with gestures. Perhaps that is why a thumb was placed in the stream at unexpected moments. In any case, this will cause the Elgato Camlink to freeze. It also happens when I consciously use the function and send a response, which now makes the cause clear. Fortunately, you can disable this function per video source used.

When you have started OBS, you will see an icon with a rectangular screen and a figure at the top right of the status bar. Here you can set whether comments can be given per video source.
