Frustrating issue where OBS lags when I tab into the game.

I haven't the faintest clue why this started. I touched very few settings and having this issue started about a month ago, I've tried tweaking things here and there according to varying online posts, but I just created a new profile to reset all the settings (I believe that's what it does). It still seems to have this issue. The main game among many I play is Apex Legends, where I get above 80 fps usually, which the hardware in the log. I'm not sure what the issue is on the recording as it used to be able to record the full 60fps with minimal impact, and now, while minimally impacting still, I get a drop from a regular high FPS in the preview on OBS to a crawl when I tab back into the program I'm trying to record. I noted some people have fixed similar issues by putting OBS on their primary monitor, however I tried this thinking that may actually help too and that didn't even work. I have 2 monitors at different refresh rates which windows 10 has a big enough fit with, one is 1440p240hz, other is 1080p60hz. Not sure if that has some issues with the OBS software, though that said, that isn't new since this issue started. Is there some settings I should disable/enable or change that I just can't find the right info on?
