MSI GE70 Apache Pro
CPU: Intel Core i7-4710HQ
GPU: NVIDIA GTX 860M
RAM: 12 GB
I have been trying to set up OBS Studio for streaming, but I am having trouble with frame drops in game. I'm on even attempting to stream yet. These drops are occurring just from having OBS Studio open.
I am using game capture to capture League of Legends. I run the game capped at 120 frames and easily maintain that. However, once I open OBS the frames immediately drop down below 50. I have tried capping at 60, but still get drops. I'd like to maintain at least 60 FPS in game while streaming.
I'm confused because my CPU is not exceeding 50%, mostly hovering around 35-40%. I downloaded GPU-Z and it showing my GPU with the game and OBS running is not exceeding 70%, hovering around 55-60%. If neither my CPU or GPU are being strained, I don't understand why I would be having frame drops. Also if the game is already in progress and I open OBS, the frames immediately drop, yet if I close OBS the FPS never fully recovers. After OBS has been closed it will only returns to around 70.
Update: Since writing this up, I made sure OBS was running on the Nvidia card and not the integrated graphics. I also ran OBS in administrative mode. This brought the FPS up around 60-65. I'm still confused why I'm seeing such a big drop and afraid that I will get even worse when there is more action on screen.
I've attached the latest log where the game was running around 65 FPS.
