Question / Help FPS Cuts In Half When OBS Is Open

So this is strictly related to recording local files with OBS, no streaming involved at all.

I went to record today, a game that I haven't recorded in sometime, with all the same settings I once had. I quickly noticed I was only getting half the frames I once did (60 w/ vsync enabled now 30 or less). naturally at first I thought it was a hardware issue on my end (which would suck since everything is still only 6 months old). I ended up checking to make sure my drivers were up to date, checked the performance tab and really didn't see anything unusual. I then attempted to launch the game without OBS open and I was back to my solid 60 w/ vsync (over 100 without). The moment I opened OBS the fps cut by half or more once again, without actually even starting the recording option. I did check the forums and saw a post about making sure it was updated. OBS never gave me a notification but I thought "just in case" and did the update. But even after that the issue is still there.

Now so far I've only noticed it with one game (DOOM) and the couple others I've recorded using OBS have seemed okay but I'm not sure if that's just lucky in what could be a larger issue or if it's just something with OBS and DOOM that has popped up since the last time I recorded it a couple months back. If anyone has some insight or ideas into the issue it'd be much appreciated.
