Question / Help Focusrite 18i20 has echo but Reaper does not?

I am using a second generation focusrite scarlett 18i20 which uses the same drivers as any other Focusrite product. Support is telling me "Please note that we're not aware of any issues with our devices/drivers and OBS on Windows at all and many, many of our customers are using it without issue. "

There were no problems with DPC LATENCY test.

No ASIO Github drivers installed on this test.

Is this true? Everyone OK with Focusrite drivers?

Ran test with Reaper no delay.
Ran test removing connections to Focusrite and plug mic and speakers into fronts ports. No delay.
Log file attached with echo.

That did not help however I was able to see all 8 inputs from Focusrite. Each mic input I choose was having the same echo.

Here is a video of what it sounds like. Focus control does not have any inputs on, just out focus port 5 to speakers what OBS is outputting.

Using Admin roll
  1. Updated OBS 25.0.8
  2. Installed obs-asio-installer_2.0.2b
  3. Sample rates are both 44.1

Tested:
  • I added an input capture still echo
  • I added an ASIO input capture still echo
  • I put focusrite control on mono still echo

I know focusrite support is as frustrated as I am.

Did you ever figure this out?
I have been live streaming and have the same problem.

No but there is a tech person at Micro Center I am going to pay to look at both computers as to why they are not using the right drivers. The response they gave is below and it ended with.."Let us know what happens, and we will be glad to offer any assistance if we can. " So they are waiting too to hear how I solved this.

"It does appear that you are experiencing a rather high DPC Count, which seems to be causing your issue. Here are the PC drivers and processes contributing to the current interruptive behaviors on the PC which are those needed to be addressed:

Wdf01000.sys: The genuine Wdf01000.sys file is a software component of Windows Driver Framework by Microsoft. The Windows Driver Framework is a set of Microsoft tools and libraries. Wdf01000.sys is a driver associated with the Windows Driver Framework that allows communication between hardware and connected devices and is completely safe for your PC.

Often, this can be solved by updating System Drivers for your computer. To do this, go to the website for your PC's Manufacturer, enter your specific Model of the PC, and run all available updates for your System.

Additionally, can you try disabling the following in your device manager:
- All network adapters
- All other sound devices
- Bluetooth
- Any card reader
- Modem
- Any other unnecessary device you might have

Then restart your computer.

LatencyMon also advised you to turn off CPU Throttling. This is something you would have to do by going into your PC's BIOS, but that is something I cannot advise you on how to do, since every PC is slightly different when it comes to the BIOS, and I am not a PC Tech. For help with this, "

Are you running on a laptop?

I have been dealing with this on my laptop and might have fixed it this morning.

In reaper I add a bus track and put reastream on that track, all my other tracks go under that bus track. I turn down the master and and have obs monitor settings send to the 18i20.
In obs I have the reastream filer on my default/audio card.
I also have my laptop set to mute, to turn off the on board mic. If I disable the mic in the system settings it will not work at all.

I tested real quick and everything seems good. I am doing a stream tomorrow night so I will find out then.

I have it on all computers, HP Omen, custom build and another custom build all with windows 10. I plan to take it into Micro Center to have them diagnosis it.

This is my settings in reaper. (see attachment)
The Main Bus has the ReaStream plug-in.
The Volume Folder is to adjust the volume sending out to ReaStream, I tried adjust the volume on the "Main Bus" folder and it does nothing to ReaStream.
I put the rest of my track under that.
The master controls the output to my headphones on the Focusrite.

In OBS I have my sound capture device is set to Stereo Mix (Realtek High Definition Audio).
I have a filter on that with the ReaStream Standalone VST.
In OBS Settings/Audio/Advanced its set to Focusrite USB.
And then in Advanced Audio Properties I have it set to "monitor off"

I also have my laptop muted as well.

It took me hours and hours to figure this out.
This is probably the most crazy way to do it, but this is the only way I could do it.

See if this helps you.

got a call last week from Focusrite support who actually knows and works with OBS. We ran some test with him sharing my screen and he concluded Focusrite has a driver problem. suggested I use Windows drivers to see if that helps the echo.

I appreciate the work around but like I told the tech if windows can run OBS and not get an echo I would expect Focusrite to do the same.

I honestly don't think its a driver issue.
I have been a computer tech/IT Admin for 23 years.
Pretty sure its actually a latency issue with OBS and ReaStream.

I tried it with my Roland FA-66 and the same thing happens.

What the focusrite tech and I noticed was that it works with Windows and there's no Echo when making it tutorial but there is with focusrite. If it was latency with obs Windows drivers would also do it.
