Question / Help Fixing slow seeks

So I attempted to record with the Apple hardware encoder, instead of software. I don't plan to do this again.

In my editor, I found that any attempt to move back a frame, or to continue playing after a clip, results in a LONG delay before the next video frame is rendered (no delay for the audio in playback).

My suspicion (no proof) is a lack of key frames; is there a way to confirm this?

And, is there a way to convert the recording to one that has a more reasonable behavior, while still maintaining 4 audio tracks (so don't say "export it unedited from your editor").

Record to MKV. If you record to MP4 and OBS crashes or is otherwise interrupted, the file will be corrupted and unrecoverable. If you require MP4 files for some other purpose like editing, remux them afterwards. OBS Studio users select File > Remux Recordings.

As to keyframes or the lack thereof, how did you set OBS up? If you can post a log from that session, we might be able to provide better insight.

Try explicitly setting your keyframe rate to 4, or 6, or 8 seconds. Setting Keyframe to Auto (or "0") can cause programs to have issues seeking files compressed with that setting.
