Question / Help *Fixed* Windows Fall Creator Update broke OBS?

So it seems that more than one piece of software on my computer is broken after the fall creator update I installed on Nov 14th.

OBS will not load at all now citing "Failed to create directory C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\obs-studio/basic", then "Failed to create required user directories".

I will attempt to dig deeper, but I'm at the point of ditching Macrohard for Linux... and desperately trying to run games on a Linux system. :(

BTW, can't add a log because I can't get the program to even start up.

Wait a sec, this might be due to that <bad> piece of software I tried using, "GameSave Manager". Ohhhh, it is too. Here's the scoop and fix:

It *moved* my OBS files to a storage location (why it didn't copy is beyond me), then created a symbolic link to the new storage location. When I discovered that I didn't like GameSave Manager, I deleted the program and what I thought was my backup files. But no, it was my *actual* files. I think I have some backups on my Google Drive I'll try to pull, but in the mean time, delete the symbolic link and OBS starts normally, albeit without any settings. Grrr.

Navigate to %appdata%/Roaming/GameSave Manager 3/$$ CacheDir $$/GameCache/<numbered folder>/OBSStudio

Open the GSM_INFO.xml file. That tells you where to put the files. Basically do this:
  1. Open the "1" folder" (or the latest number) from the link above
  2. In another window, open %appdata%/roaming/obs-studio
  3. Move everything from window 1 to window 2
That should restore all your OBS settings.

Then delete GameSave Manager and never use it again. :P
