Fire TV Stick issue

Hi, I was hoping someone has advice for me. I have seen YouTube videos on using your Fire TV on the laptop by plugging it into a video capture device. I have followed the instructions exactly according to the YouTube videos. I select USB device video and I see the fire stick starting up for a a few seconds, then the screen goes completely black. I would appreciate any help regarding this.

It's possible that the TV stick switches to encrypted video, after the startup splash screen to show that it's working, and your capture device doesn't do encryption. Probably a DRM agreement that the TV stick has, given the intended content.

Thank you, I guess that's a possibility. I did purchase the same capture device that was recommended in the videos.

I'm experiencing a similar problem. I've been using OBS Studio with a video capture device and an Amazon Fire Stick for most of this year without any issues. However, over the past month, something seems to have changed, and now I'm encountering the same issue as you. The settings in OBS Studio are correct. When I connect the Fire Stick, the logo appears, I hear the startup sound, but then it suddenly cuts out, leaving me with a black screen. It's incredibly frustrating, especially since it worked perfectly before. Do you have any ideas on how to fix the issue?

How do updates work on the Fire Stick? Are they automatic and transparent? If so, then it may have had one that does what I described, and this is the only way you'd know.

Going to try a HDMI splitter. The issue is likely as you say, encryption. High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) blocks video capture cards and OBS software.

Hi, I have a similar problem. I also followed a YouTube video on how to connect the Firestick to the PC. I bought a USB device with HDMI input and I did a test with a Firestick and it worked perfectly. I tried again with another Firestick, slightly older. When USB Video is enabled, a screen with colored vertical lines appears. What can I do?

Is that the capture card's way of saying, "I can't use this."? Some cards do what you show here; others are solid blue, green, or black; some actually put a (somewhat) helpful message on screen (rare, but I've seen it); and still others try to interpret encrypted video anyway as if it were not encrypted, and show a "snowstorm" of noise.

Same problem with my Firetv stick as well. I connected Firetv using capture device opened up OBS. FireTV logo comes up for 4-5 seconds then it's all blackout.
Please let me know if you find any solution for this problem. Thanks

Your answer is probably in the third post in this thread, copied here for your convenience:

Because of the DRM thing, we're not going to help you circumvent it. Sorry.

Also previously said in this thread:
OBS is for creating content. Contact the content owners about obtaining a recording of their work.

well there are obviously completely legitmate reasons to use a firetv stick with obs - for example, we're frequently using one (among other methods) to transmit screen content from a presenter's computer across the room in a crowded venue via airplay or miracast. a firetv stick can simply be an inexpensive wireless video solution. i've also come across a couple capture devices that didn't work, but working ones are definitely out there. most of the cheap dongles from aliexpress (under $10) do the trick.
