Question / Help Facebook Live - juddering stream

Hi there. I have a MacBook 1.3GHz Intel Core M with 8GB of memory on 1600 Mhz DDR3. Is this enough to run OBR? The reason I ask is that I did a broadcast at the weekend and it was really juddering. My connection was fine and fast. The flv recording was also juddering which make me think it's either my OBS settings or my MacBook. Any help would be really appreciated. Many thanks.

You are overloading your CPU. It cannot encode at the frame size and bitrate you specify with the current settings. Either raise the bitrate, lower the frame size, or go to a faster CPU preset-- superfast or ultrafast. This will sacrifice quality for the sake of keeping up with encoding frames as they are rendered.

CPU preset is now on Superfast.
Video Bitrate currently set at 1200 - what would you suggest?
Audio bitrate is set at 96 - sound OK?
Under advanced - rescale output is set at 2560x1600 - what would you suggest for that?

1200 is pretty low, even for streaming. Try 2500-3500 for 720p30 and 3000-5000 for 1080p30.

Also, you're using an ancient version of OBS. The latest is 20.x and you should be able to run 17, 18 or 19 on 10.10. The cutoff for running newer versions is OSX 10.9.x.

Audio bitrate at 96 is a bit low-- go to 128 or even 160. Audio quality is in many cases more important than video in terms of how people perceive the quality of a stream.

If you want people to watch on standard screen sizes you should be rescaling to either 1280x720 or 1920x1080 and adding bars if necessary. Only scale to a nonstandard size if you only expect people to be watching on a desktop in a browser and no other application (smartphone app, TV app, STB app).

I don't know about your internet speed, but with me I have 50-up 100-down I always put the output to 7000 streaming in 720p and the streaming is great.

I see many here that go for 2500-3000 well just make it higher use audio as 128 and video for 7000 minimum
Rescale to 1080 or 720

If you're not a partner with some of the streaming services and using one that requires that before allowing for transcoding, using that high a bitrate will mean buffering for some users. If none of your users report that, then great! But up until recently (last few years) more than one streaming service didn't even allow for bitrates over 5000.

I myself use 6000 but this is what the platform I use recommends; if frames are being dropped because of the network (stats window will report it) go lower.
