Question / Help Extreme Sutering and Slow, Clunky Quality.

I'm trying to record Rust with OBS Studio and I'm getting horrible clunky quality. Lots of big pixels are seen when moving around and looking around. When i am standing still it is a little bit better but not a lot. When I up the CPU usage thing I get better quality but so much stuttering and lag. Please help me. What could be causing this upload in lag.

It wont let me upload the log...let me see if I can do it after I post it.

Hi

The lag is due to

21:02:21.297: Output 'adv_file_output': Number of skipped frames due to encoding lag: 395 (60.3%)
21:02:21.297: Output 'adv_file_output': Number of lagged frames due to rendering lag/stalls: 4 (0.6%)

listed in the log. The cpu preset is set to medium change this to ultrafast then move to veryfast until you find the right spot that isn't causing lag but is at an acceptable level of quality.

basicly your cpu can't handle the medium preset but this is pretty intense anyway.

Thankyou for replying so fast... so veryfast gives me a lot of stutter, no real lag though. Still unplayable.

superfast gives me tiny stutters now and then still clunky quality.

ultrafast gives me really shitty quality, no stutering.

Is there any other settings that could be changed so I can set this setting higher?

Hi,

Can you post an updated log after using the setting veryfast this will show any issues or change which can be made.

The 6600 cpu will be under load with x264 software encoding, So given you are only wanting to record you can swap the encoder in the recording settings to use ACE which is AMD's version of Nvnec and should provide decent results for recording without any fps / lag issues.

Sure,I'm not sure I get an option for ACE. Under Output/Output mode Advanced/ Encoder = x264, The only other option I have is Video Coding Engine H.264. And yes I am only recording.

Code:
22:22:16.015: OBS 0.15.1 (windows)

You're still on 0.15.1, the current latest version is 0.16.6.

Any other suggestions, seem to believe that BeardedBob doesn't know what to do aha

If the x264 software isn't creating lag but the quality is poor you can up the bitrate, If then the quality isn't right and a high cpu preset is selected say ultrafast then you need to flip to ace amd encoding as suggested, this takes the load of the cpu and will give you decent local recording quality :-).

The bitrate for local recordings also doesn't need to be CBR it can be VBR.

The last log showed now lag so now just change the cpu preset and or up the bitrate, tweak until you find that sweet spot everyone is hunting for :-)

As said by Xaymar, the recent update has done it for me. I'm using the AMD Encoder and it records really well even at 60 fps. Everything looks clean and no stuttering and even no frame drop whatsoever in-game. Amazing. Thank you all for your help. :)

Quick Add:

distant objects in-game flash qualities. They go from somewhat detailed to pixelated really fast, distracting and annoying any suggestions?
