Question / Help External Mic not working with USB Sound Card Adapter and iShowU

Hello OBS Gods,

I am helping a friend setup his OBS on his MacBook. We are trying to get an external wireless microphone to work. Because his Mac does not have a 3.5mm mic jack we are using a USB audio sound card adapter. We are getting the audio into the Mac OK. We have setup iShowU and configured it properly (we think) but the audio is not getting into OBS.

What are we missing.

Thanks for your help.

Are you trying to capture sound from applications on the MacBook? Because that is what iShowU is for. You don't need it to use a physical microphone, whether USB or otherwise. You should just be able to add it to a scene as a source, or configure it in Settings > Audio as an audio device (which will appear in ALL scenes).

Thanks for the reply Narcogen. We are indeed trying to get that external device to work and not get sound from the desktop. I will double check both the Mac and OBS settings to get that device working without iShowU.

After furter exploration we are also unable to get the internal microphone of the MacBook to work with OBS. The Mac OS that we are using is 10.14.5 and the OBS is 10.23.1

We reinstalled OBS but did not get any further.

We have confirmed that both the internel and external Mic via the USB adapter is working with Skype...so why is it not working with OBS when we select it in the Audio settings of OBS?

Have you tried adding it as a source in a scene, rather than from the Audio panel?

Any device with a working driver that shows up in other apps should work.

The only exception I'm aware of is in Mojave and above where it's possible a device won't have permission to access a device and OBS won't properly trigger a request to ask for permissions. I haven't experienced that myself because I have remained on High Sierra for various reasons.

We just tried an Audio Input Capture and the audio from the microphone does not work.
