Export Video from One Mac to Another Mac via Thunderbolt Bridge?

Hi All,

I am relatively new in OBS, but recently having a situation and wondering if it is possible to:
export mixed video and audio from one M1 Macbook Pro to another M1 Macbook Air, via the thunderbolt bridge connection?
If so, I would really appreciate a few links or some instructions on how to make this work.

Main purpose is to use the M1 Macbook Pro as a live video streaming powerhouse connected to switcher, audio sources, media files, and have the M1 Macbook Air pick up the mixed media content exported from M1 Mbp, and then feed the signal to an e-commerce video streaming platform app.

The idea is to separate the two different parts of work ( one is streaming switching, and another more about sales and customer care chatting...) Also the work on MBP would be handled by myself, and the work on MBA would be handled by another person.

I've read some articles about the NDI plugin, connected the two laptops with a thunderbolt 4 cable (quite expensive for the length). Just having a hard time figuring out the settings.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks!

Alex

You want OBS to render the program feed and send it to the MBA *in real time* for streaming via another app running on that machine? What types of source-inputs can that app accept? Your approach sounds interesting, but there might be an easier way to do it--I just don't quite understand what you're working with.

NDI is a network thing. IP packets. Does Thunderbolt do that? Or do you need to convert it to Ethernet first, and then back again?

I tested it and it worked flawlessly over my home router at home. The most important thing is to get NDI working on the MBP properly. I use the NDI monitor in the second MBP 2015 and it detect the feed from my MBP M1. No thunderbolt cable was used. But I guess if you're on location you can network the two laptop via thunderbolt.
