I am trying to record gameplay of Rise of the Tomb Raider. For some reason though it will give me a message saying that the encoder is overloaded. When this happens the video stutters and skips frames. I've been trying to tweak settings but they have either made it worse or no change. I have it at Ultrafast and indistinguishable quality.

Here is my computer specs:

What does your CPU usage look like when just running the game? Are you using vsync or some other frame limiter to ensure the game doesn't eat up too much CPU?

goes between 35 and 79 percent. I have vsync on and using triple buffer. I tried lowering the quality to medium too and it got worse with the encoding which didnt make sense.

If your CPU is already hitting 80% usage before you ever run OBS that might explain why you're running into trouble. Since you're only recording try setting your preset to ultrafast instead.
