Question / Help Encoding Overload even with i7 at 720p?

So I decided to try out OBS Studio today to record Overwatch because I don't trust my other program to not crash things.
I recorded some footage in the practice range to test it, but repeatedly I kept getting an encoding overload, resulting in a video that has extreme frame loss (probably only 1 frame every 10 seconds is kept).
I find this strange as encoding uses the CPU, and I have an i7-6600, which should be able to handle encoding at just 720p. Can someone tell me why this keeps happening, and how to fix it?

I am in the same boat - hoping someone here can provide some possible answers.

EDIT: By same I meant we both have i7s. Didn't realize yours was a dual core.

Keep in mind that your i7-6600U is still a dual core CPU. Also, running a game without vertical sync or a frame rate limiter will frequently cause performance issues with OBS because your GPU will be maxed out (especially since you're using only the integrated GPU). Enable vsync or set a reasonable frame rate limit that your GPU can handle without hitting 100% usage. If that's not enough you may also need to turn down some of the video quality options in the game.

I already have overwatch locked at a maximum of 30fps, and all the graphics settings are set to minimum - 50% render scale and all that. I can run overwatch without any problems, and I could probably use my other recorder. (Though as I have already stated, I don't trust it not to crash as it is 'unsupported'.)

I have good experiences with Bandicam.

Your CPU supports Quick Sync, you could try using that as your encoder instead. Particularly if you're just recording. If you aren't maxing out the iGPU that should help a great deal.

Woah that worked like magic! I really only plan to use this for recording at the moment, so are there any other settings I could change that would help?
