Question / Help "Encoding Overload" all of a sudden?

I've used this setup for a while, and I've streamed "The Division" with this exact setup many times before (earlier this year I streamed the game for weeks on end) without any issues. But for some reason, "encoding overload" is appearing now.

I have all game settings on low, vsync is on in the game as well.
OBS settings, PC hardware etc. down below.

My connection is 100/10, very stable.

I have uploaded two log files from a 2 minute session as well as a 4 minute session. Both sessions had the same issues, everything is just lagging out on OBS and on the stream page, but the game is running fine with steady FPS.

OBS Settings:
Bitrate: 3300
Base Resolution: 1920x1080
Downscaling: 1096x616
FPS: 30
Encoder Preset (qsync): Balanced
Encoder Preset (x264): veryfast
Servers: I have tried Amsterdam and Frankfurt.

PC:
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4590 CPU @ 3.30GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.3GHz
Display Device: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970
Memory: 8192MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 8086MB RAM
Operating System: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (10.0, Build 14393)
System Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
System Model: Z97P-D3

I have read other posts by people with similar issues.. but I found no real solution. Could it be issues with NVIDIA drivers? Because I did take a long break from streaming (9-10 months).

Appreciate the help guys!

Edit: Also, forgot to mention that I've tried using QuickSync as well as x264. I'm having issues with both. Changed some typos in the post as well as uploaded the physical log files instead, because 15000 character limit.

If everything has previously worked fine with this exact setup and configuration with this same game and it suddenly doesn't, my first suspicions would be:
  • New software is hogging CPU/GPU time while you're trying to game and encode
  • Hardware temps are too high

Exactly that, I haven't changed anything in terms of hardware. So I'll try to turn off everything in the background one thing at a time to see if something changes.

I never thought about checking the temps, I'll do that as well.

Thanks for the tips, will update when I've tried this out.

So I've checked everything now pretty much, and it looks like bottleneck issues with the CPU. I'm at a steady 100% CPU usage while streaming and playing on low settings. Which is incredibly weird, since I streamed this game for weeks earlier this year. My CPU is on a steady 3.45-3.50Ghz (with turbo) on good temperatures.

I'm thinking that recent NVIDIA drivers could have worsen the optimization with this game (The Division).

So yeah, it's basically solved.

Two options:
  1. Buy new CPU
  2. Downgrade NVIDIA drivers, hoping for better performance

Thanks for the help.

WIN Key + R
Type: "%temp%" and hit enter
Select All
Shift + Delete
"Skip" any files in use

Try again and see if that takes care of your CPU usage. This clears all the temp files from the computer, which can ultimately over work the CPU and your RAM for absolutely no productive reason.
