Encoding is overloading suddenly with no explanation

Hey Guys,

I'm using obs quite a lot of time for recording gameplay and I know that there sometimes we get some issues. But this problem I encountered never before and probably I'm not the only one having this issue regarding the forums.

My system specs are the following
CPU: Ryzen 9 3900X
GPU: RTX 3090
RAM: 32GB
OS: Windows 10 Pro

I'm recording 4K footage with 60fps, therefore I'm using this settings
OBS-settings.JPG

In the morning I did a couple of recordings with these settings. There were no issues at all, the gameplay has a great quality and isn't lagging at all.
Then I did some rendering in premiere pro and went to lunch. After coming back I closed premiere pro and all the unnessesary stuff to start recording.
I opened obs and the same game like before. It is skipping frames, it's lagging and is overloading. I did everything like in the morning and it isn't working anymore. I also reduced the resolution from 3840x2160 to 1280x720 on monitr, game and obs. Did nothing, a reboot of the system hasn't helped aswell.
My Cpu is running at 20% and the gpu aswell at around 30% on 720p.

Does anyone found a solution for this? Or are you clueless aswell?

Use the Quality, not the Max Quality preset. Turn OFF Psycho Visual Tuning. Leave Lookahead OFF.

Those three options use CUDA cores, which can cause Encoding Overloaded issues to start and stop at random, even on systems that should have no issues.

Also, you should be recording with CQP/CRF, not CBR. CBR is the WORST option available. CBR is used for streaming as it is required for the back-end infrastructure on most services.

I used to do this with cqp, but that doesn't change things. The issue persists regardles what I do. But I will try your suggestion with the settings and will write again.

After changing the Max Quality preset to Quality the issue stopped. My GPU is now running at 60% when I record in 4K. Before that the gpu got between 95-100%. Thanks for the quick help ;-)
