Elgato HD60 S+ capture randomly freezes

Hey. I have an issue with OBS 28.0.1 which relates to an Elgato HD60 S+ capture card. The capture randomly freezes (audio and image), and I need to manually Deactivate and Activate the source for it to work again. After that it works for a while, then freezes again. It takes half an hour or so for it to happen the first time, and after that it's more frequent. There is nothing in particular that's happening at the time from what I can tell.

I have checked the log and the only thing I can see logged around the time when it's happening is the below, which seems to indicate it's related to the audio from the capture card. I use one Video capture source, and then I also capture the audio only, which is the one indicated below.

Code:
19:49:55.371: Device 'Digital Audio Interface (Game Capture HD60 S+)' invalidated. Retrying (source: Game)

Log file attached. There's a lot of obs-browser entries which is another issue, but afaik not related. The log also says Windows 10, but I'm running Windows 11.

I've not been able to reproduce it reliably, but it always happens when streaming.

I'd appreciate any hints on what could cause this. Thanks!

Same problem for me with the HD60S+ and the CamLink 4k as well. Sometimes deactivate and activating is enough, sometimes an OBS restart is needed, which is pretty horrible on twitch. Adding a new source with the same device worked once, but not twice. Sometimes after reconnecting by (de-)activating several times the audio was delayed or not there. Switching the audio settings for the device in the source (not the "advanced audio settins") back and forth could get rid of the problem. After multipe hours of streaming and struggling the HD60S+ FPS dropped to about 10 and the audio was constantly echoing so i had to quit.

Thanks for the reply! I did some more testing and I believe I figured out the problem. I was streaming Destiny 2 from a PS5 and noticed the capture only froze when entering and leaving a crucible (PvP) game. The interesting thing is that only the crucible matches in D2 runs at 120Hz. So what I did was to simply turn off the "120 Hz Output" setting in the PS5 Video Output settings, and since I did that the capture did not freeze again. So it seems the issue occur when the signal changes in Hz. What may or may not be related is that the 120Hz mode in D2 is broken right now. I will try again when it's fixed to see if it's still happening.

I'm currently not aware of any setting in OBS, Windows, or somewhere else that could fix it, but I'd be happy to receive feedback on this.

However, I'm wondering if this is not a bug in OBS after all. The only thing I needed to do to fix it this time was to open the Video Capture and click "Cancel" and the video came back, which would seem to indicate it's more of a glitch in OBS.

In any case, this is a rather specific issue, but I hope this info is useful as there's may be other games or video sources that switches Hz and may cause this issue.

Hello, I know this is quite old, but I've run into the same exact problem as well. At first, my OBS was running up until 30 minutes long, then it slowly dwindled down to 8 minutes each recording. It would freeze up at such unpredictable times. I have a powered Anker 555 8-in-1 USB-C hub plugged into my 2020 MacBook Air, M1 chip, with 8 GB of memory. It currently has enough power to charge my Mac as I use all my recording equipment. I had a DXLR microphone plugged in, as my external microphone. I soon learned that when I unplugged my microphone, it would record for a long time (I only tested it to 30 minutes), but it was enough for me. I plugged in a Blue Snowball to see if it would act the same way, but it seemed to fix the issue. A few hours down the line, I run into the same problem again. I read that this would happen to you in D2, and I'm mostly playing MW2. I'm gonna run a test to see if it's only MW2. If so, it might be the change Hz as you said. Wish me luck!
