Question / Help Elgato HD60 Pro not capturing at 60fps (plus skipping)

Hi guys,

No matter what I do I cannot seem to get OBS Studio to capture at 60fps. I thought I had done something wrong, either too low a preset on the CPU or too many elements on the screen but after doing some blind-testing with my wife we cannot tell the difference between 60 and 30 frames per second on the UFO test website when capturing. However, when we use the Elgato default capturing software it's all too obvious.

I was previously using the LiveGamer HD's without much issue.

It does seem to do a better job with the 60fps capture when I have the capture card inputted and nothing else. I've even tried turning the cards down to 720p60 to give OBS less work to do, but the issue persists. I'm at a bit of a loss right now!

Does OBS Studio benefit from a decent GPU? Right now I'm running a crappy GT730 in my dedicated streaming rig.

Okay, after a while of messing with settings I found out I had to feed OBS Studio all of the information manually for it to do 60fps. For one, I often have a preview of the stream on a large monitor and the actual OBS window just to control the stream on another, this causes the capture card to lag some-what but this might be a GPU limitation on my rig.

To get the HD60 pro to input at 60fps with no stutter I had to set it (in OBS Studios properties for the device) 1280x720 at Highest FPS (59.95 will result in 30fps). Video format must be YV12. YUV Color Space must be 709 with Range set to Full. Buffer to Auto (not 100% if this one is needed).

Also OBS Studio seems to have a hard time with the audio feed coming down the HDMI cable, I noticed the capture card started serving 60fps video instantly if I disabled the custom audio device, but setting the Custom Audio Device to match your card is the only real solution to not having a crap tonne of cables. After I set the above video settings, the capture card served 60fps with a custom audio device again.

I'm also not 100% sure this is relevant but going into the video codec options on the Elgato software and setting it for best performance instead of best quality helped. Again, this might be because of my video card :) I plan on upgrading my rig with my wifes old GTX770, which should help a lot in general!

Hey, can you post a log please of a stream with the issue? Also, aren't you using the DirectShow multicard driver?

We are using the multicard driver yes! It seems that the options help, but the biggest thing is making sure to NOT use the device default, as that will only capture at 30fps. There are a few options and settings to get it smooth, as it can sometimes be quite jittery at times. I've been playing with it to make it smoother overall.
