Question / Help Elgato camlink interlacing/deinterlacing?

Got a camlink yesterday. It had a little squiggly going on. Today I wanted to do a test with everything setup. It was still happening in good light. "Accidentally" found settings for interlacing. I went through all of them and now it has gone totally spastic. Any help as to what -all my settings should be to make this thing work? I'm shooting auto races so I need 60fps. I'm using a canon r800 which is on their list of supported cameras. My base settings are 1920x1080 and output 1280 x 720 59.95 fps. Camlink numbers are the same. Streaming on the logfile is screwed as it is the end of the month and tmobile is dumping me during "high congestion times" Must be a lot of people on cell phones for fathers day. Or maybe it's defective. Opened up obs today and removed the camlink instance, shutdown obs, opened it and tried to add new instance of camlink and I got -----nothing. Back to Amazon I guess

Totally weird- for yuks and giggles I turned it all back on and went into the properties and its showing "cam link 2" clicked on that and it "seems" fine. Not sure I want to rely on it for race day stream------hmmmm

maybe you did this, but there was a firmware update through Elgato game capture hd program that I needed to perform after getting mine. you could also check other sources, like plugging a Blu-ray or something into it, could be camera cable, power.

having said all that I watched the youtube video and I haven't seen anything like that on mine, so i wouldn't rule out a return just yet.

What type of computer are you streaming off of. is it i5 4th gen?

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7. Only having it a few days I would think the game capture is up to date but I will check anyway. I never opened it--duhh. Need to start a petition to the camera makers to put a usb port in to eliminate the dongle.

yeah mini to HDMI. I did open the gaming application and found that yes there is a firmware update. Will try it all out when I get off work. Thanks

The update "seems" to have done the trick. I think what I'm seeing right now is noise from low light. There is about 1/2 second of audio lag. I noticed it in both the game app and obs. Any ideas as to a fix.(Shooting car races it isn't really critical at this point to viewers- echo may drive me bonkers after 4-5 hours though)

That was disappointing. Just tried a livestream. Cpu useage went up to 50-60%, dropped frames, couldn't even control my mouse.

Something else I don't understand. I hit the record button-no streaming. Cpu up to 50% fps around 20. Since its not having to scale anything, shouldn't there be less of a load? Shouldn't the fps be at 59.95? All I recorded was a splash screen, 5 image slide show and the cam was stationary

have you run the setup wizard with all the camlink and camera plugged in and running? I cap my stream at 30 and it stays a steady 30, so yours should stay at 60 if it can. your computer has an i7-3615QM CPU, or 3rd gen i7, but the camlink lists a min of a 4th gen i5. Yours is sort of technically comparable but may just be on the threshold and so your computer really has to kick it into overdrive.

http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i7-3615QM-vs-Intel-Core-i5-4460

is camlink your only video source? if I'm just running camlink it's about 10% on my MacBook Air. Add my facetime that's about 15%. that's having everything capped at 30fps though.

In the wizard, you have an option to choose your preferred fps and your canvas size. you could go with a lower canvas or try seeing how it goes with 30/60 option rather than forcing 60, or even 30, just as a comparison.

Hunh! I didn't know that about the i5/i7. Just assumed the i7 was newer/better. When did companies start going backwards with numbering? lol.
I have a feeling I'll have to stay at 30 orrrrr try a smaller canvas for this weekend and look into the higher priced units that actually do some of the heavy lifting as well as new computer.
This weekend is our last race, then close for 2 months. Hoping to putout something that is actually watchable to try and judge interest in this before investing more $$$$$
1 good thing about this mac is it still seems to have some value in the used marketplace
Thanks for the info!

Just to clarify: the numbering isn't backwards, isn't just that they aren't directly comparable across generations.

Since Intel doesn't aggressively market with clock speeds anymore, they settled on the i3/i5/i7 designations as a kind of "good/better/best" comparison.

However, every couple of years all of those get revised, so you have generational improvements:

1 Nehalem
2 Sandy Bridge
3 Ivy Bridge
4 Haswell
5 Broadwell
6 Skylake

So when the above says the minimum spec for the Camlink is a 4th generation i5, it means a Haswell chip, i5 or better.

A third generation i7 chip, from the Ivy Bridge series, is in no way guaranteed to be better than an i5 chip that came out years later-- the improvements from generation to generation can be larger than the differences between series when compared across generations.

So your i7 is better than the i5 chips from that 3rd generation and before, but not necessarily after.

Thanks for the clarity.
Since getting the macbook I haven't kept up with all the computer improvement. Photoshop, Premiere and all the associated plugins have just worked fine. Yeah after effects has always been a bit slow...6,7 programs open no problem. This streaming thing seems to change the game. Getting past all the hype and bs is a pita. But that seems to been the case in the computer world. Over promise and barely deliver(we'll fix it in the next update)
