Question / Help Elgato audio cable question

So here's the issue: I have a monitor hooked up, which doesn't have speakers (or a sound output). I can hook up the HDMI to the Elgato and get sound in my recording, but I don't want to just monitor the sound because I'll hear it with a delay. If you hook up the headphones to the Switch console while it's on the dock, you get sound, but then the Elgato doesn't get the sound via HDMI.

I heard that if I buy a splitter I can output sound to headphones as well as the Elgato, but I wanted to test this. I hooked up a male-male audio cable as seen in the photo. I can't seem to get the Elgato's line-in audio to work in OBS (or the official Elgato Game Capture software for that matter).

So this forum post hasn't even been approved by a mod yet but I seem to have found the solution; this video was very helpful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqGCiPr5J2c I didn't know about the "Configure Video" dialogue bringing up additional Elgato settings. I will note, however, that I have a serious "buzzing" in the audio, but I am told I can also fix this by purchasing a "Ground loop noise isolator" because the audio splitter doesn't work well without being grounded. Did not expect to spend so much, but I'm figuring it out.
