Elgato 4k60 pro + DSLR camera with OBS stutters unless I do this. Why?

I have been dealing with stuttering issues while capturing DSLR video for a while now. I'm using the (4k60 pro mk2) at 4k60 resolution.

Today a strange thing happened whenever I turned on the Elgato 4k Capture Utility at the same time OBS was running. The OBS preview and recording looked perfect. No stutter, lag, dropped frames, nothing... A fix? The moment I closed the Elgato Utility OBS went back to stuttering.

Why can't OBS work alone without stuttering? The problem is that OBS requires 10% gpu and the Elgato Utility requires another 10%. I would rather use OBS by itself and save 10% gpu usage.

For now I'll keep both apps active until there is a fix. Any suggestion as to why this is happening? Thanks.

Hey mate, I'm literally having the exact same issue as you. 4k60 pro mk 2. When I see stuttering in my obs preview, opening the 4k capture utility app completely fixes those issues.

Did you ever find a fix at all?

I reached out to Elgato support and they said it's an OBS issue. I'm not sure how to make them aware of this. At least it works now. Albeit at the cost of added resources to the gpu from running both apps at the same time.

Annoying. Thanks mate. I'll try have a play to see if I can fix it, but no luck so far

Its like OBS cant access the driver or the capture card directly, only the elgato Software is able to Do that. The preview on the capture Utility is smoooth, but OBS only has limited access to the capture card
