echo on audio playback

Hi I am struggling with echo feedback on audio playback of the recording in OBS studio on the streamed input from a Zoom session.

My own microphone records fine with no echo.

I need to record a few minutes of each session and then play it back within the zoom session. There is no problem with audio either end in zoom and I have a new windows PC. Dell inspiron 15 5000.

I think i have turned off all the settings of other possible input such as from the second screen etc.

I have tried getting friends to record on different devices with always the same response.

I think it must be to do with the settings, but I have no idea what. I am new to this software and am very untechy!!!
Thanks

Are you using a headset? if no, when you play other content and can hear that via your speakers, your microphone will pick that up and possibly create an audio loop/echo.
if the above describes your setup (external speakers) you need to avoid audio loop. either mute your microphone, or use headphones so your microphone doesn't 'hear' the output.
There are other options, but they do get more technical.
and if I have the wrong scenario, then ignore this.
Good luck from another newbie (but who happens to be very techie)

Thanks for getting back to me. Yes I am using a headset with integral microphone. I will try muting it, but ideally I would still like to speak sometimes while recording the live stream conversation from one other person in Zoom, which would mean I would need to keep muting and unmuting the microphone. I think I may need a more technical option! Any suggestions? Break it to me gently!!

If you are using a headset, and not external speakers, then the microphone isn't creating an audio loop (most likely... I'm assuming this isn't an open-air headset that you are playing loudly), as your voice/room noise is all that the microphone would (should) pick up.
Instead you are more likely fighting an OBS default setting (and its assumptions) vs what Dell does and its audio software. On a Dell Precision mobile workstation, I ran into issues, and the fix for me (brute force approach) was to disable ALL of the default/desktop audio in OBS. Then in the scenes where I wanted a microphone to be live, I added Audio Input Source. For me - no more echo
It hasn't been worth it, or necessary for me to dive deeper into this. I'm suspecting I was streaming both microphone and desktop audio (which included microphone) at some point, somehow... this wasn't the case initially, and not sure how it changed... but whatever... my setup works for me..
For you, check that your Advanced Audio settings and make sure that your microphone isn't repeated on another source that you are also Outputting to the stream. For example, if Zoom attendees can hear your audio, you may hear that via your Zoom feed as well. Then do you also have your microphone connected to OBS. if yes, there you go---duplicated audio feed which (due to natural latency of Internet round trip on Zoom audio) will result in a likely echo
