Question / Help Duplicate Video Capture Device

How can i duplicate a video capture device?

Right now, when i copy a "video capture device" source in SceneA and "paste(duplicate)" into SceneB it behaves like a reference.

If i change settings on the copied "video capture device" it will change those settings for that source in both scenes.

I need to be able to copy a "video capture device" source in one scene and paste it into another one and they be completely independent sources.

I have tried creating a new source with the same device on a different scene and OBS shows the source as blank.

Never mind. If i enable the "Deactivate when not showing" option on my device it will allow me to add a new source with the device in a different scene.

This is being addressed in Mantis Bug 1034. Generally, you would use "Add Existing" or "Paste (Reference), which adds it as a copy of an existing source. You can still apply crops and transforms on these instances independently. However, filters are currently shared, if I recall correctly.

What exactly do you need to do with these multiples instances independently?

I want to set up different scenes that are unique from each other.

You can still and should use "Add Existing" for adding more instances of the same video capture device to other scenes. You can then position, transform, or crop the instances differently from each other.

What settings do you need to be able to change independently and why? I'm just trying to understand the scenario and use-case here.

I need to be able to adjust filters and stuff independently in each scene. Not just resizing or positioning.

The way i have it working, is working fine. BUT, if there is a better way to do it, i am listening.

Scene as a source for the filter sets you want to use on the camera in each other scene.
Add the unfiltered camera to blank scenes for each filter set, apply the filters to those scenes, then add those scenes as sources in the scenes you want to use those filter sets in.

@Harold That sounds promising, but i am having difficulty understanding your instructions. Would you mind editing your suggestion and being more descriptive?

Thanks

Create a new scene, "Unfiltered Camera". Add your camera, full sized with no filter / crop.

Create a new scene, eg "Cam with color filter". Add a scene source, "Unfiltered Camera". Apply whatever filters you want to this source.

Go to the scene where you want to use the "Cam with color filter". Add a scene source, "Cam with color filter".

Repeat steps 2 and 3 as needed.

Awesome, that worked! However, your instructions are not entirely correct.

You should actually apply the filters to the scene and not the source during that step.

Took me a few minutes to figure that out.

Thanks

How do I add a "scene source"? Aren't they two different things?
