Question / Help Downscaling video: How to get the best quality?

Hi, I record gameplay in 1440p, but youtube doesn't let my vids play back in 1440p only 1080 (seems related to popularity of the vid).

So I have three options for downscaling, let youtube do, let OBS do it, or let Sony Vegas do it.

Which would give me thee best quality? My guess is Vegas but I don't know.

i see the problem. 1440p requires the VP9 encoding from youtube.
you can force VP9 encoding on youtube.
these following steps should help you.

go into your video manager on youtube
1. click
2. click
3. click
Unbenannt.jpg
done, wait for VP9 encode

Dude how thee heck are you seeing that? This is what my youtube looks like:

I can't see anything related to VP9.

Edit: I figured it out, I simply resave the video correct? Let's see if this work :)

Edit 2: After it finished it still maxes at 1080p.

Didn´t know the english version.
You have to click at first on "Enhancements"(step2) and then save changes(step3).

i made a 1440p upload test. my channel is very unpopular. and my vid too, because it´s private. firefox shows me max 1080p without VP9. but chrome 1440p with VP9 encode

This is an old thread but whatever.

There are more ways to get VP9 than to upload in 1440p.

So, here are the known ones;
Rendering in 1440p
Lots of views
(?) Lots of subscribers

Some people just randomly get VP9 on their videos.

Here are the "secret" / "unknown" ways to get VP9.;
(KIM) You don't need to render in 1440p or have a lot of views.
1. Go to "Video Manager," find your video, click "Edit", click on the "Enhancements" tab, and drag the little preview slider all the way to the left. You don't touch anything else, just drag the slider to the left and click save changes. Your video should get VP9 soon.
2. Enable Google Drive for your channel if it's not already. Go to Google Drive, click "Upload" and select the rendered video or just drag and drop into the general area, when it's done uploading, go to your YouTube, click "Upload", in the top right there should be something that says "Import Videos", click "Import", find your video and select it, when the video is done processing it will have VP9 in a little bit.
