Question / Help Double Audio (Can hear mic through/playing in desktop Audio)

I've been having issues for a while now with audio in OBS. For instance when I record a video OBS only captures my desktop audio (my game) but does not record my mic even though the volume bars show OBS picking up my mic. So I played around a bit with "Monitor and Output" in the mixer and now my audio is doubled (I hear myself through the desktop audio)

First, disable monitoring (set "Audio Monitoring" to "Monitor off") for both sources to disable the echo.

Second, in Advanced Audio Settings, you configured Desktop Audio to go to audio track 1 and mic going to track 2. What do you intend to do with separating audio in 2 tracks?
In case you don't know why you split the audio in the first place, revert it and send both to track 1 only (move the check from 2 to 1). Then you will have both sources mixed in track 1 and hear both.

In case you want to postprocess game audio and mic audio separately, check Settings->Output->Recording and verify that you activated tracks 1 and 2 for writing to the video. And that you use a file format such as *.mkv that is able to carry multiple audio tracks. *.flv isn't, but mkv and mp4 are. In this case, at playback, be aware that a media player never mixes audio from different tracks. You can listen to one track at a time only. In the media player, you can switch from track 1 to track 2 to hear your mic. But you cannot make the media player mix both tracks and play both. For this, you need to postprocess your video and mix track 1+2 and replace both tracks with your mixed track.

For preview, you can have the best of both variants: Activate 3 tracks in Settings->Output->Recording and check track 1 and track 2 for Desktop audio and check 1 and 3 for Mic in Advanced Audio Settings. So you're writing 3 tracks: track 1 with both sources mixed (and this is what your media player will playback as default), track 2 with desktop audio only and track 3 with mic only. In case you feel the urge to postprocess your audio, you have the option to mix track 2+3, but you can also listen to an already mixed version from track 1 as well.
