Question / Help Does GPU matter?

With a 6600k, is there an advantage to using a GPU instead of integrated? This is for a streaming rig only. Also, if there is an advantage, does the GPU matter? Will a 1060 stream considerably better than a gt 610? Will a gt 610 stream considerably better than integrated graphics etc?

Hi,

Yes if you are planning to downscale as a poor gpu can cause render lag even when using x264 software encoding which you would normally use for streaming.

If you have the pc already without the say 1060 give it ago if your cpu is fine but the obs log is showing lag then its more than likely the integrated gpu or weak gpu creating it. I think in the log you can tell with a video ms response measurement / line, can't recall which line in the log shows this but i'm sure someone can point it out.

The iGPU on an i5-6600 should be fine for an encoding box, no discrete GPU is needed and it certainly doesn't warrant a GTX 1060.
