Do you risk dropping frames if you record while streaming?

No. Dropped frames are always a network problem.

Skipped frames could result if you are using a separate encoder for a higher-quality local recording.
If you are using 'same as stream' to just save off a local copy, there is almost zero additional load on the system aside from the write operations to the recording disk. It should not cause any skipped frames.

Thank you. Yes, we are using a separate Nvidia encoder. Are you suggesting we stick to the Simple output mode and use 'same as stream' for recording quality?

That wasn't the original question, but yes, that would be an extremely low-impact way to save a local copy of your stream.
