Question / Help Distorted Camera Feed - vertical squishing

I’m running macOS with Catalina and so this could be an issue there which just isn’t resolved but I’m pretty sure the vertical distortion I’m getting is a user error thing.

I’m using a black magic ultra studio mini connected to my camera, running that through a
Thunderbolt 2 to thunderbolt 3 converter and then into my MBP with Catalina.
I’m using the test version of OBS for Catalina bc 24.0.2 crashes on me and I’ve yet to try running it via the command prompt.

I’ve got two cameras I’m working with:
Sony RX100 mk-iii
Canon Powershot G7 mk-iii
My OBS scene set up is three deep: an image screen with my shows png title, a face cam, and a browser feed (via window capture). No PIP just yet.

i find that when I connect the Sony to OBS the image looks great. However, when I connect the Canon to the feed OBS requires me to remove the input from the scene and set it up again. However, after doing so, the image feed is vertically squished and I need to manually resize or I look like I’m filming at a circus. So we’re talking not wide screen but rather a noticeable resolution issue on the vertical axis.

I figure this is a setting somewhere in OBS or on the canon but I’m not finding anything on the camera and in OBS settings for the video and output I get the same problems just scaled to the different resolutions ... ie the vertical to horizontal ratio is the same no matter what I do. Thought somebody here might have a fix they’d share.

Help?

So I can resize and hold the Verticla to Horizontal rations the same or push and hold shift to resize manually on of the two. doing so of course runs the risk of not being consistent across scenes, takes, and videos.

what am I missing?
