discord audio clicking/clipping when OBS is also open

Hey, I'm new to OBS but will be producing a fairly large event using OBS, discord and Twitch soon so I need some help.

Essentially, the problem is whenever I run OBS and Discord at the same time, all incoming audio from discord has static-y clipping sounds throughout it, for both people playing music through discord or talking. It starts right when OBS is being open (one its closed it goes away), and its been consistent across everyone I've streamed audio from. It's so weird, as it seems like this problem only started today. Additionally, I get a lot of lag in the video which OBS doesn't seem to notice.
Here's a very short video that demonstrates the problem, and its only mild in this clip, it can be a lot worse (the video is very quiet you'll have to turn yr volume very high to hear)

Possible diagnosis:
Everyone I've experienced the problem with is speaking from a phone mic or a laptop mic, could this be the problem?
I'm using a fairly old Mac computer with Mojave, so could it just be the computer not being able to take OBS and Discord running at the same time? It weird cause doesn't appear to be slowing down OBS at all.

Any advice would be appreciated. Let me know if you need more info.

I still have been experiencing the same issue. My friends always hear me with a staticky audio when I have OBS open.
