digitalize old video camera videos

hello, i have an old sony video camera, digital8 ntsc,
i'm trying to digitalize its vhs,
how can i know what is the best resolution and fps for my model please?
i tried to record and got 38 minutes video which has size of 6.5GB,
i dont think it need to be like this,
please advice,

Use the Simple output mode, Indistinguishable quality option.
Initial recordings of video generally are not as efficiently stored as re-encodes using the completed file, as they are an unknown quantity; the encoder can't look at the whole thing to find the best packing.

Once the initial digitization is complete, re-compress it with better quality encoding using something like Handbrake to bring the file size down. Getting video VERY small without looking bad is almost an art though.

but how do i know which fps to use please?
29.97 or 59.94?
which encoder? software (x264) or hardware (NVENC)?
and which resolution that i will not have black bars?
