Question / Help Difficulties with audio track recording and playback

Hi folks,

I'm trying to set up OBS to record gameplay and voiceover/narration simultaneously. I have tried about everything I can think of to no avail. Here's what happens: If I set game capture to track 1 and the mic to track 2, in MP4 playback, I get the narration but no game sounds. If I take that same exact recorded footage and drop it into Premier Pro, I only have 1 audio track and it's the game sound and no narration. I've tried reversing the track settings - no difference.

Now, If I set game capture and mic to both track 1 and track 2 then I get both audio playbacks in MP4 playback and in Premier Pro.

But, no matter which way I do it, it only has one audio track in Premier Pro, (albeit stereo) but I have no way of separating game sounds from narration to adjust for levels.

Anyone have any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

that's how tracks work. Suppose you have a mp4 with several audio tracks, which could be: main audio, audio + director comments, first foreign language, etc ... You are listening to a single track and don't want to hear the others. In vlc, in the audio menu you can select the track for instance.
In premiere, you can hear everything because its purpose is to later mix all your audio sources.
If you want gameplay + voiceover heard together, you need to put them into the same track; obs will mix them.

My understanding is that OBS will record multiple / different tracks. And In Premiere, I will see those multiple tracks - being able to adjust them so I can adjust levels in each. I can't, no matter what I do, I see only 1 track. And unless I record in OBS, both, Mic and game audio in the same track, can I hear them both in media player and Premier Pro. If I do it in separate tracks I hear voice in media player but game sound in Premier - with only 1 track visible, unable to adjust levels separately.

I have seen video demos of multiple tracks exported with the recorded video, from OBS to Premier, and the ability to alter all of them separately.

for multiple track recording, you need to select your tracks in Settings > Outputs > advanced > recording: standard tab
Did you do that ?

Exactly, yes - that's why I'm so confused.

it's recording fine for me in several tracks in mp4.
Only thing I can see is that you didn't setup correctly in Advanced Audio Properties. Can you post a screenshot ?
