Question / Help Desktop Audio Issues

Recently i started streaming again and i noticed the audio from my mic and desktop are strange on twitch. I posted a thread trying to resolve the issue but i got no replies. I went and tried to fix my audio from my mic and desktop as best as i can. Today i managed to fix my mic by going to advanced audio properties and checking the DESKTOP monitoring on (Picture provided). So my microphone is fixed but not my desktop audio. the issue im getting with the audio on my streams is that it seems not bassy at all and it sounds like its echo-ish. It may have something to do with my headphones (I purchased new ones Asus Strix ROG 7.1 wireless) but the sound is fine and i have no issues with them. I will provide a link to my twitch from my old headset Razer Kraken Chroma and todays stream and you guys can compare. If there is no issues on your end please let me know.

New headset https://www.twitch.tv/videos/187043853

I will also provide a log files of my settings on OBS (10 of them)

A stereo (2 channel) speakers or headphones would have avoided nearly all of this problem...

The problem is with 7.1 surround sound, OBS-Studio only record and stream in stereo, downmixing to 2 channels, and I don't think Twitch/Youtube support surround sound.

Your first Twitch link have no game sound, only voices.
Your second Twitch link does have some echo, but I am also hearing your video with too much bass on my cheap 2 channel stereo headphones.

This problem may affect all surround sound systems (5.1, 7.1, or anything more then 2 channels), not just yours.

Control panel, sound, playback devices, configure. Mine is in 2 channel stereo and works fine.

I am not sure if/when OBS-Studio would support 5.1, 7.1 surround recording or live streaming (if compatible with Twitch, YouTube, others).

The thing is both of the headsets are surround sound 7.1

So my friend was watching my stream lately to make me believe that i had no audio issues. And he text to speach messaged about the quality of the stream. Then he pointed out that there was indeed an echo from the TTS on discord i recorded now the TTS in discord and hopefuly someone will finaly come up with a solution or at least reply that they have no idea what might be the cause of my audio issues.

From there i have tried recording and to see if the issues appear on recordings rather than on twitch and im getting the same problem. I have tried with surround sound on and off with different profiles. No luck. I am starting to think it may be my sound card on the motherboard. Motherboard is Gigabayte gaming G5 for 5820k i7 processor.

The audio fix for OBS-Studio you appear to haven't tried is... use 2 channel stereo headphones. Nearly all live streams are in stereo so there isn't really any gain to use more then a basic 2 channel stereo for watching live streams and most videos.

USB headset does not use the on-board or PCI-E sound card at all. Based on the logs, microphone use it and works fine. You can change default device in control panel, sound, playback devices. Device manager have the option to disable a sound device (try not to uninstall).

OBS-Studio downmixing 7.1 speaker recordings to 2 channel is part of the cause, as it doesn't yet support 7.1 channel recording or streaming. More possible problem is the other programs might be extending mono/stereo voices to surround by adding some echo.

Use stereo speakers/headphone, or unplug 7.1 channel (USB headset) and try a cheap stereo headphones/headset to plug into audio-out (green) of sound chip/card. OBS-Studio can cleanly record up to 2 channel stereo.

I was aiming to try that on my old razer kraken today wish me luck :D

I can now confirm that the cause of all this is the 7.1 surround sound. Altho i find it wierd that even tho i set the headphones on stereo i still hear the problem. And further strange thing my friend has 7.1 surround and he does not seem to encounter this issue.

When is OBS going to support the 7.1 surround sound ?

Thank you so much for your help! Even though this thread wasn't directly related to my issue (echo with a condenser mic), the advice given sparked a few other ideas which solved the problem. I've have asked OBS chat several times, written to youtubers and even opened a thread here with no help. Kudos to you! ♥
