Dehisser makes audio sound muffled

Hello,
because I have problems with harsh s-sounds in my audio (sibilance), I tried a few De-essers with OBS (Reaper-EQ, Reaper-Dehiss and TDR-Nova). But I always run into the same issue: the S-sounds get quieter, but the overall sound is muffled - as if you were recording under a comforter.

I mean, with the high praised TDR-Nova I can exactly select the frequency where the "s" is (in my case around 6-7k), dampen it and leave the other frequencies untouched. So the plugin is supposed to only dampen the ess and not the whole track - what it doesn`t.

When I tune up the general gain or only the gain of the lower frequencies, the audio gets louder of course. But also the muffled sound.

So how do I get rid of it while maintaining the dampened essing?

Thanks in advance for any tipp.

P.S.: On the picture below you can see my settings: I know it is often said that we should toggle off the bands I-III - in my case however it would make the audio even quieter. So I let them untouched.

12bB?? Almost any source with such huge change will sound completely different. So, it is normal.

Meanwhile, I think so too. Tested a new Mic and the hissing wasn`t that extreme. In addition to that, when I use the OBS-inbuilt equalizer and tinker with the high-frequency controller, I get almost the same result as with TDR-nova.

Thanks for the answer
