Custom Server settings for OBS

I recently started an account with Interserver and am planning to use its VPS service in order to stream on OBS but I'm having trouble connecting the two.

In OBS settings when it comes to choosing a Custom Server I tried entering the IP address to the VPS but that didn't work. Are there a couple of steps I'm missing? Does the Custom Server have to be an actual URL? And if so, a url directing to where?

Ultimately I'd like to stream OBS through Owncast and this is the one step that's giving me an issue.

Hi, welcome to owncast. I'm doing it slightly different than you, using self hosting on a raspberry pi. But there are some nice videos that show you how to set up a linode account in just a few minutes.
