Corrupted mkv recordings

I recorded a video game from beginning to end, opting to pause every 20 minutes or so to stop/restart recording, because larger files and DaVinci Resolve don't mix well. By the time I was finished, only about half of the recordings are actually playable. The other half won't play in VLC. Remuxing results in "Recording remuxed, but the file may be incomplete." (No remuxed file can be found.) MKVToolNix says "no EBML header found." None of the files are 0 bytes, some of them are over a gigabyte in size, so the data's there, I'm just stumped on how to salvage it.

If encoder fails somewhere in the middle of the process of recording - the files likely damaged. Casual users usually choose to make new recordings rather than make attempt to repair damaged (hard, time consuming, result is not guaranteed).

Instead of recording to mkv you can try to use fragmented recording to mp4 (it wouldn't guaranty better results in case of encoding errors, but at least it provides alternative method of writing/storing media files).

Please, attach OBS log-file from recording attempt where the issue happened (it may help to developers to better understand root of the problem).
