Question / Help Constantly striking out w/ OBS & Blackmagic, Thunderbolt

Hello gang,

Be gentle -- I feel like I did a thorough search of the forums and couldn't find a solution so figured I'd face the music.

I have.....
- MacBook Pro (2012, High Sierra 10.13.5)
- JVC GY-HM200 (and a HM100)
- BlackMagic box and am connecting via Thunderbolt.
>HDMI cable from JVC to "HDMI IN" on the Blackmagic box and then a Thunderbolt from the Blackmagic box to the MacBook.

The objective is for me to use the JVC (with XLR audio plugged in) to host a YouTube live stream with a remote guest (he'll be on Skype via OBS' "Window Capture" along w/ Loopback).

In OBS, I go to SOURCES>ADD>BLACKMAGIC DEVICE.
DEVICE: Intensity Shuttle Thunderbolt.
MODE: I have tried nearly every possible combination of video setting on the JVC (1920x1080, 1280x720, 30i, 30p, 60i etc) and its corresponding setting in the dropdown menu (I've also gone thru all the different capture settings in the Blackmagic Desktop Utility app).

I'm getting nothing. No video, no audio....just black. The camera (video and audio) has worked just fine with Wirecast in the past. Everything else I've done with OBS has been pretty simple and intuitive but this is something that continues to stymie me. I've also noodled around with "Black Syphon" and had no luck with that either. Any help is greatly appreciated -- just seems it should be so simple: camera to box, box to cpu, add source in OBS, voila......but I just don't know what other steps I may be missing or goofing on. Please help.

I suggest you try Blackmagic Media Express first, it is usually installed in to your computer if you install the BM device software, check if it also sees the video coming from your camera, if not then your equipments' connection might be the problem and not OBS, change your hdmi cable or plug your camera to a monitor. Please also see BM's Desktop Video Setup if you have it to see the configuration which input is set to your device, be sure it is set to HDMI IN. If everything is working with other applications and not on OBS, try to add a VIDEO CAPTURE DEVICE as source and then add Blackmagic Device

.

I second the above suggestion to try the BlackMagic software first just to make sure everything is working before shifting over to OBS.

I'm also unsure if it's possible that there isn't a mode supported by both these devices in common.

The Intensity supports:

720p50, 720p59.94, 720p60, 1080p23.98, 1080p24, 1080p25, 1080p29.97, 1080p30, 1080i50, 1080i59.94, 1080i60

Plus some SD standards. I'll ignore those for now.

You say you've tried on the camera:

1920x1080, 1280x720, 30i, 30p, 60i etc

The BMI page doesn't list 720p30 or 720i30, so those are out.

It does support 1080p, several variations, but I don't know what your camera is sending. Try 59.97?

Lastly, your camera supports RTMP streaming. Maybe an NGINX setup would work for you?
