Constant Feedback Loop / Microphone Echo When Using Discord

Hello all, hope you're doing well.

I'm using OBS to stream from my Nintendo Switch. The game audio, game video, and my microphone (coming from a USB headset) all seem to be doing fine when I'm only in OBS by myself. I can thank some of you guys for this! :]

However, an issue arises the moment I join a Discord call. Even if I don't screenshare (and of course, when I do), there is a very intense audio feedback loop / distorted echo coming from my microphone. That is, loud screeching noises when I speak loudly or make loud sounds in the background.

I don't hear it on my end at all, since my mic is set to Monitor Off in OBS. I don't have any issue with echoing when I'm in OBS alone. It is only my friends who hear it.

It seems as though everyone has a different issue than this -- something to do with their friends' voices echoing (mine don't, btw), using speakers or their Desktop Audio for something, etc.

Some things I have tried include:
  1. Mic off in Discord --> mic on in OBS --> screenshare = echo
  2. Mic off in OBS --> mic on in Discord --> screenshare = echo
  3. Add a separate Audio Input Capture, set to my USB headset mic --> mute original Mic/Aux = echo
  4. Have NO separate Audio Input Capture, just the original Mic/Aux --> change original Mic/Aux set to my USB headset mic = echo
  5. Disable all unused audio devices in Audio settings (only ones on are Desktop Audio = Default, Mic/Aux = USB headset mic = echo
  6. Mute/Disable Desktop Audio (Note: I have zero browser tabs or other software open that would use my microphone, it's just Discord and OBS; also, I am not streaming anywhere else like Twitch while doing this)

I don't imagine you will need this info since this seems to be a problem with my Audio settings, whether it is in my computer itself or OBS, rather than any of this stuff, but here you go -- just in case:

Thank you so much for your help in advance and stay safe out there! Please let me know if you need any additional info.

Okay, back within half an hour to report that I actually found a solution through a random Reddit comment.

The issue was I was listening to myself speak and stream through another Discord account, thinking it wouldn't echo because I was on another account. Yeah, earlier I said only my friends hear it but I meant me, on another device, lol.

The issue was, I was still on my phone which was less than a foot away from me. The moment someone else checked how my stream was doing, instead of myself (on another device) it was fine.

That's why it was echoing. So dumb!!! But I'll keep this up for anyone that may need it in the future.
