Connecting a VHS player as the Video Capture Device on MAC not working

USING MAC . The App is seeing the 'AV TO USB2.0" in the 'Video Capture Device window.
VHS player is connected and playing.
There is no picture displayed in the App.
A blank / black video file is being captured at destination / no sound... files are the size one would expect for video capture.
capturing in all formats fails.
