Question / Help Command Line Interface - filename output?

I would like to record video from command line. This works well; however, I would like to process the file after it is done recording (pass filename to handbrake). Is there a way to know the filename that will be created? The filename appears to be YYYY-MM-DD_HH-MM-SS.avi, but I could be off on seconds. So, I know the path, but is there to get the filename? I.e., is there an environmental variable set (or something else)
