Question / Help Clutch or Kick?

Original OBS, I streamed at 1280x720 @ 60fps, 3000 bitrate, 3000 buffer size, and everything went smoothly.

OBS Studio, 1280x720 @ 60fps, 3000 bitrate, 2500 buffer size, and I get incredible in-game FPS drops to the point where playing the game isn't even fun.

I have the same PC/Internet I had back when I used OBS Original and I'm confident my settings throughout Studio are set correctly to ensure things run smoothly. I'm asking for advice before I just download, install and setup the original OBS in order to stream successfully, even though Studio has some cool new features that makes it a better service overall, it's just not worth the FPS drops.

Also, not being able to hear the "Media Source Audio" on desktop, is a little crazy as well. I'm aware OBS are working on this and it'll be added back, but not before another 2-3 patches come out though as it's said to be a big project, it's odd you didn't implement this straight away, why take things away from the original design, a complete update "OBS Studio", you're meant to add more, not take things away, heh.

So if anyone can perhaps add some insight and offer helpful advice so that I don't need to revert back to the Original OBS, I would appreciate it.

Nothing was taken away in OBS Studio, it's a complete new program built from the ground up. Also built by one person basically.

Reagarding your problem, OBS classic uses the exact same encoder as OBS studio, so performance difference in encoding is virtually non-existent at the same settings. Without a OBS classic log it's difficult to say if the settings are actually the same.
In the obs studio log there isn't much evidence of frame drops, only a tiny amount of skipped/lagged frames.

Understood, overall it's great work, just a few mishaps. The original OBS you could hear the audio on desktop, and you can't with studio as the moment, which made me think that option was taken away you see, doesn't really matter seeing as it's being added in the near future.

Regarding the frame drops, I'm unsure what else I offer so that a solution can be found, games runs smoothly, I open Studio and the FPS drops immediately, game play is unstable and unplayable really which in turn makes me unable to stream so that, not only will I want to stream but people will want to watch. It seems like a common problem when looking through the forum pages, and when doing a Google search, I can't help but think it's down to OBS Dev(s) to fix this issue, whatever it may be...

I'll continue to do some tweaking within the settings and see if I can find anything to solve this but... It's unlikely I think.

Hi,

Does it still work ok with Classic on 60fps 720p?

checking the log you have it on superfast cpu preset also, given the cpu you have 3570K its getting tired especially if not OC. If you play arma III as you know this is cpu intensive so you must be boarder line even without streaming for decent fps at a decent res. The GPU is also not great so if your getting good results with classic imo you are doing well.

OBS classic doesn't preview when its open but OBS studio is of the bat, what happens if you click preview on OBS classic do you get FPS drop?

you could also try dropping the cpu preset from superfast to ultrafast to give some cpu % back.

I appreciate your input. I don't currently have Classic OBS installed at the moment so I can't check.

ArmA is indeed CPU intensive, even when not streaming, I can just about play that game. Although my priority the last few days is just getting games such as Rainbow Six Siege to work smoothly with Studio. I've this very moment just changed a few settings in Studio, quickly did a test run and, it "appears" to be fixed, my game play a few moments ago was quite smooth, as it's expected to be.

The settings I changed I guess should of been obvious, upon installing and setting Studio up, I couldn't remember the Classic OBS settings I used, so I followed the guidelines from a few online tutorials for Studio, and seemingly that's what's messed me up.

I changed the recommended settings below to what I simply think will work better. At the moment, it seems to of worked, I'll do a full test run shortly and update this thread to indicate whether or not the below changes solved the in-game FPS drop issue.

Encoder: x264 (changed to) NVENC H.264.
Base 'Canvas' Res: 1280x720 (changed to) 1680x1050 'native res'.
Process Priority: Above Normal (changed to) Normal.

Again, somewhat obvious settings, seeing as I have an Nvidia card, and a 1680x1050 monitor. Although I do remember not needing to use NVENC settings with the Classic OBS.
