Question / Help Choppy video regardless of recording settings

Hello all,

I have been having an issue with unsmooth/choppy videos when recording. They aren't crazy choppy but you can tell that there is a skip and it just doesn't right.
I feel like I have tried everything.

I can provide more log files if this one isn't helpful.

Thank you,

I'll give this a shot right now.

14:44:25.490: Output 'adv_file_output': Number of lagged frames due to rendering lag/stalls: 35 (0.2%)

Extremely slight rendering lag, but probably enough to cause a visible stutter occasionally.

That typically is only present on shorter recording attempts. If you look at the attempts with more frames attempted that number becomes 0.0%

Probably because it's being rounded down. It's possible there are a given number of frames that are skipping when certain things happen-- a particularly complex scene, or transition, or switching between scenes, or if/when you tab out of an application, etc. Over a longer stream it would not be an appreciable portion of the whole, because the stuttering is not constant.

I watch the stats and I am barely getting any frames missed. I am at 38/274560 for frames missed due to rendering lag, so I don't think that is the issue. The only time frames are missed is when I am exiting the game to go to obs and I reenter the game as well. As soon as I am back in game it has no issues.

This doesn't seem to have helped either :(

Disable GameDVR.

Use Rivatuner to check for frametime consistency, as your log barely shows any missed frames.

Are you capping your FPS in any way?

The only thing on was "Record in the background while I'm playing a game". I shut it off and will see if that helps.

My FPS is capped at 144 FPS via g sync.

Cap at 120FPS and test again because it is a multiple of your 60FPS encode setting, which means frames are more likely to be synchronized, assuming your graphics card can maintain stable frametimes.

I'll give this a shot, although I love playing at 144 fps with 144hz, but I doubt I'll notice the difference.

I think this fixed it! This should allow me to crank up some settings now as my GPU is less stressed.
