choppy recording?

Hello, so I'm trying to record Genshin Impact using OBS. I've done many things I've seen already suggested:
  • running OBS as admin
  • changing the details of the recording and the graphics for the game
  • uninstalling and redownloading
  • making OBS a priority when it's running
It starts the recording fine. It doesn't give me a black screen, the recording is just choppy. All audio/voice recording is fine as well, it's just that the video itself is very laggy and choppy showing only a few frames of what really happens. I've been trying things for almost a month to fix it but nothing has worked.

I am not that great with technology (like lingo wise) but I usually can fix some minor problems I have with my computer. I don't know the specs for my computer but I'll try and find them if needed. Also, I am playing on a laptop: Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Yoga Gen 7 (to be specific).

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what to try and do to fix this?

OBS on a laptop usually doesn't work very well. They tend to heat up quickly and slow down to protect themselves, and then the encoding (needed for either streaming or recording) falls apart.

We usually recommend a desktop tower if you can (cheaper for the same performance), or a Mobile Workstation if it must be a laptop. MW's are thick and heavy because they have a for-real cooling system, and not just a token fan like most laptops, if they even have that.
