Question / Help Choppy/Laggy Stream

Hello all,

I've recently started streaming and I can't help but notice a lot of lag and choppiness in my stream and in the videos that are saved after I'm done and was wondering what the issue is?

My PC Specs are:
-ASUS Maximus VIII Extreme
-Intel i7 6700K @ 4.00GHz
-32GB DDR4 2133MHz
-GTX 1080
-Mechanical 7200RPM HDD (I know, I need a SSD and I plan to xD)
-EVGA 1300W PSU

My OBS settings are:
Server: US East: New York, NY
Encoder: x264
Enforcing streaming server encoder settings
Rate Control is CBR
Bitrate is at 2500
Keyframe Interval set to 2
CPU usage Preset set to fast
Tune set to animation

In Video settings:
Base resolution: 1920x1080
Output (Scaled) resolution: 1280x720
Downscale Filter: Bicubic (Sharpened scaling, 16 samples)
Common FPS Value: 30 (was 60 but still get the issue)

Edit: My upload speed is a little over 6Mbps according to speedtest.

Any help/tips will be greatly appreciated.

You basically have the exact same internet as me so these settings should help. Make sure the preset is on x264 so it uses your processor more than your graphics card. I would also set the cpu preset on either very fast or faster, you may be able to go down to fast but just mess around with that to see which one provides the smoothest stream and your bitrate needs to be between 2000-3000. You just need to mess around with it and find the balance, streaming at 30fps is fine and streaming at 60fps when you aren't a partnered streamer is a waste of power.

I understand setting the CPU Usage Preset below fast (like medium or slow) is not recommended unless you have a beefy CPU. I did test it out on very fast and faster and still get the issue. I then tested it with the Bitrate at 3000, the problem still persists. I feel I've done just about everything with no luck. Aw, so streaming at 60FPS while not partnered is useless, gotcha.

Alright then, thank you for your input on this issue, I appreciate it.

Also try to run the stream at lower bitrate so such as 2000, 2250 and 2500 as these nitrates are also good to stream for unpartnered streamers at 30fpa

Oh yeah, what about putting in "opencl=true" in the x264 Options under Output? Would that be worth testing out or no in your opinion?

No do not do that it's been proven by obs representatives that it does very little or can actually hinder performance a lot.

Hi @Obey

The log you shared does not contain a stream or recording. To get the most info, please stream again for at least a few minutes while gaming, then stop the stream and exit OBS.

When you start OBS again, please share the last log. (not the current log)

Sorry about that. I'll be sure to do that later today, I'll be streaming for quite a bit with friends.

15:24:51.023: Output 'simple_stream': Number of skipped frames due to encoding lag: 1005 (6.2%) --> cnage preset to faster. Your CPU can´t do fast
15:24:51.023: Output 'simple_stream': Number of lagged frames due to rendering lag/stalls: 88 (0.5%) --> GPU limiting Reduce a bit ingame graphics needs.

I did that, now when I click 'Start Streaming' nothing happens on my Twitch dashboard. I'm connected but there's no live video.

Changing preset does not produce that problem.

Check your streaming service configuration in OBS
