Hey guys so I bought Dying Light and was super excited to start recording it for my channel, but For w/e reason whenever I go outside the video gets super choppy and laggy, OBS is only using average of like 33% if my CPU so IK its not because of to much strain on my CPU.

MY PC Specs:

i7-5820k - 6 Core: MT-12
32GB DDR4 Ram
Nvidia Geforce GTX1080

I have never had problems recording any other games, and have recording games like Fallout 4, Subnautica, Battlefield 1, Overwatch and so on on high settings with no problems.

I can't for the life of me figure out why Dying Light is choppy when I record it.

Here is a video example of the choppiness:

the game was set for best performance when i recorded that clip, but it does it regardless of what settings are on or off.

Here is a the Log from that recording.

EDIT: Uploaded new log file

That log file doesn't show a recording attempt. To get a complete log file:
  1. Open OBS Studio.
  2. Start recording.
  3. Wait 30-60 seconds.
  4. Stop recording.
  5. Upload the current log file via the built-in upload feature (Help Menu > Log Files > Upload Current Log file) or upload the file here.

I think I may have figured out my problem, after checking out the log myself it showed that there were a lot of frames being lost due to Encoder lag, i normally use x264 for my encoder. I switched it to Nvech x264 ecoder and it appears to have gotten rid of the choppiness. Not 100% sure will have to run more tests to see but hopefully it will work now

11:12:23.708: Output 'adv_file_output': Number of skipped frames due to encoding lag: 1773 (47.8%)

That makes sense. The game you're playing likely requires a lot of CPU, and so does x264. It's even possible that the game is poorly optimized and uses way more CPU than it ought to. Using NVENC would greatly reduce the CPU usage required for running OBS Studio, as the actual encoding work would be done by the NVENC chip on your graphics card.

I highly recommend this guide by Jack0r on high quality local recordings. I also recommend avoiding recording directly to MP4, as interruptions to the encoding process can destroy the entire file. Should you experience issues with the 32-bit version of OBS Studio, you may be interesting in trying the 64-bit version of OBS Studio, but generally the 32-bit version is fine.
