Current Log: https://gist.github.com/fca4b3e5f4e19d30f2f113c8fbb20e48

I'm having a weird issue where my in-game FPS is choppy but not low, it doesn't dip below 80-120 in The Culling or 400 in CS:Go. My game feels super choppy but my stream is smooth. I have tried both OBS classic and OBS studio but it happens to both.

My computer specs are as follows:

  • Motherboard: ASUS z170-a
  • CPU: Intel i7-6700K
  • GPUs: (2x) EVGA GTX 980 TI Hybrid 6GB
  • RAM: 32GB G.SKILL Ripjaws
  • OS: Windows 10 Pro
  • SSD: 1TB SanDisk Ultra II
I have tried disabling SLI and turning off GSYNC, but neither of those improved anything. Here are my OBS Studio settings: http://imgur.com/a/x8upN

Also, I've noticed my FPS does drop almost instantly when I turn on OBS, not when I start the stream, just when I launch the program. I lose about 30-50 fps.

do you have 144hz monitor? if yes try enabling "limit capture framerate" option in game capture source.
your log seems to be incomplete, grab a file from folder and attach it to post pls

you can disable rescaling on output tab, and enable lanczos downscale filter on video tab. first thing is redundant and second will improve quality a bit

I do use a 144hz monitor. I will give those settings a try. I hope the upload of the log file works correct, it didn't give me a confirmation, here goes nothing.

Those settings seemed to have helped a lot, but there is definitely some choppiness in game. It's noticeably smoother when I'm not running OBS. The stream is still super smooth.

When I tried to stream CS:Go the game was definitely choppy. It's not as noticeable in The Culling, but in CS:Go I can for sure tell the difference, even with the settings you gave me.

one more unrelated thing, you can set encoder profile to high to bump quality

im writing on my phone now so i have limited options but if you will search my post history you will find a thread about performance issue i had in dark souls 3. Thread is mostly my garbage theories but last post is important about firmware for usb controller asmedia 1142. Im telling you this because I have almost same motherboard as you, model K. Your mobo has it also. You should go to asus website and download firmware update for this controller as well as latest beta driver that mentions oculus rift from usb section of your mobo support page. This helped me a lot with my issue.

as for more purely obs related advices maybe some one else will be able to help. Im out of ideas . You should keep sli disabled afaik

Same here in TF2, except I have 60hz and already tried limiting the framerate of the capture. No help. Significantly worse than previous versions. Also major audio desyncing issues, especially now. Both with the new NVENC and x264 at like generally the least stressful settings. I used the old NVENC previously. It still happened from time to time before, but not nearly as much (fairly sure).

I just tried CSGO with OBS Classic, and my game is smooth and stream is smooth. So I may just switch back to OBS Classic. I had some fps choppiness in Classic with OBS Studio, but I'm going to test it again. I originally switched to obs studio because someone in obs chat had suggested it for SLI video cards.

I'll try keeping SLI disabled (though no issue with it being enabled with CSGO + obs classic)
