Changing scenes live unnoticed

It would be nice if there is an option for editing your scenes live but not viewable. So you can edit scenes and after 'saving' or something it will be showed live on the stream. So you can edit scenes live but unnoticeable for viewers.
1 screen = stream output.
1 screen = edit scene + option to submit changes.

If this is possible with a small change in the layout it would be very nice. Because the program is awesome how it is now. But it will improve many streams that are finetuning and improvising.

Thanks in advance.

This sounds like a good plugin I really want to have!
making a change in obs during stream is always a pain in the ass, because it looks so unprofessional.

I can image myself the option already. A Button called "Edit during livestream"
afterwards an extra screen will popup, you will get the same editing options you normally would have. but the changes will only be visible untill you press the Button "Apply All Changes".

Well how hard can it be to create something like this?

In the mean time the dev's switched to creating OBS-MP which was a big overhaul, it is now much easier to add the feature in general, but it will be added after more widely used (and slightly more important) features are in.
The current plan includes a more advanced "studio" interface that will include the option to edit scene without showing it live.

Great to hear that it is on the road, this is the only thing that prevent me to switch from Wirecast to OBS. It will be highly appreciated.

How can I follow the progress of this feature ? Is issue #156 good for this ?

I joined to see if this feature had been mentioned recently, happy to see it may be added to OBS multiplatform that would be awesome.

My suggestion would be to have a simple "edit mode" toggle, whereupon pressing it would keep the current scene "live" or recording and be able to add and preview other scenes without disturbing it.. something like this at least.. just I've been wondering if having preview of both the live scene and editing a scene at the same time may be a bit of a resource hog.

Anyway.. good luck with it, certainly would be an appreciated feature.

Also signed up to follow this thread. (and many others like it).

It's so awesome to finally have a simple-to-use live streamer in Linux. There's many "competitors" - I've used Snowmix quite a bit, before that some custom gstreamer python program and in the beginning dvswitch (very basic). OBS really is the simplest to use, and also just as powerful (if not more, since things are simpler).

Great to hear it's simpler with OBS MP.

Anyway, wanted to share a trick I've started to use, I have an extra source of the main camera, which I make full-screen on top of everything else. That is normally disabled, but if you've put it there beforehand, you can just enable it, and it'll look like a cut to full-cam for the viewers. Then you can move around your sources in the background (only seeing the bounding boxes). It's quite low-tech and won't work for a lot of use cases, but it has helped me.

Yes, you can do this by enabling Studio Mode and editing the scene in the preview window, then pressing the Transition button to send the changes live.
